How to play backgammon
Backgammon- Game objective Each player should bring all your pieces, white or black, into his inner board so that he can move into the bear-off game phase. The winner of the game is the first person to bear off all of his pieces; in other words, a player must get all his pieces past his opponents pieces, into his inner board and bear them off before his opponent is able to.
Moving your men The game starts by throwing one die by each of the players. This decides which player will go first and the numbers that are to be played. If the same number comes up, then the players are to roll again until they roll different numbers. The player throwing the higher number now moves his men according to the numbers showing on both dice. After the first roll, the players throw the dice on their respective turn. The player is to move his men across the points, or pips according to the roll of the dice.
Doubling Backgammon is played for an agreed wager, but stakes can be doubled during the game. For example, a player who feels he has a greater chance to win may offer to double the stakes. The opponent may accept or refuse this proposal. If a player refuses to double the stakes, he must pay the wager that was at stake before the redouble. On the other hand, if he accepts the doubling he becomes the new owner of the cube and the game continues. Redoubles can increase the first wager up to 64 times.
Winning The winner of a backgammon game is the first person to bear off all their pieces. If your opponent has been unable to bear off any pieces you score a gammon which counts for twice a regular win. A backgammon, or triple victory, counts for three times a normal win and is scored when your opponent has failed to bear off any pieces and still has blots on the bar or pieces in your inner table.
